Our Impact
-
How we serve our local homeless community
At least two times a month, we prepare fresh meals that are rich with vegetables, protein, and carbohydrates to provide a nutrient filled meal. Over the month we collect funds and donations to purchase ingredients, clothing (socks, t-shirts, blankets etc), and hygeine products.
On the days that we distribute these resources and meals, we personally walk around and meet people who are living on the streets of downtown Tampa. We give them whatever they need along with a warm meal. With more resources and support, we hope to provide more for our community.
-
How we raise money
We organize raffles, community fundraisers, reach out to physicians in the local medical community that we as medical students are a part of, and we also reach out to organizations that are passionate about supporting the homeless community.
-
How we help beyond Tampa, FL
We recently started a chapter in Allentown, PA where we are working with the 6th Street Shelter to provide shelter residents with bimonthly sessions about health, wellness, and nutrition. During these sessions, we provide healthy meals and a safe space for residents to get support. We are also working with the Valley Health Partners to figure out more health initiatives for the residents of the 6th Street Shelter.
-
How much does one meal cost?
The meals we make can cost 3-5 dollars, so it does not cost much to provide a healthy meal for a fellow human being who deserves support. Any donation can mean another meal for another person in need.
-
How many people have we reached
We have served and reached over 300 individuals across Tampa, FL and Allentown, PA. We hope to help more and more individuals and help them through their journey as they wish.
-
The volunteers that make it happen
We have a community of a 100+ student and community volunteers who help with fundraising, cooking, and serving on the streets. We would not be able to do as much as we have done without the help of our volunteers.
